Technical Product Manager

The Role

This role starts on the content platform, and the platform surface it serves is growing. The foundations of the company — identity and access, developer platform, data, and the infrastructure everything runs on — are being invested in over the coming year.

We are looking for someone whose curiosity does not stop at the edge of their own team, because the interesting problems here sit exactly where those layers meet.

There is genuine ambiguity in this space right now, including a decision or two you would inherit that we have not finished making. We would rather tell you that than have you discover it in month two.

The upside is that very little here is set, so the person who takes this role will shape the layer everything else in the product is built on for the next several years.

Requirements

• Own the content services every surface depends on. The services and APIs that serve content to the learner surface, the admin surface, and everything we build next, plus the delivery path including CDN and video, and file and asset storage.
• Own the structural contract. Define how content is stored, versioned, and served so it can be reused and assembled differently for different customers. This is a schema and interface problem before it is a tooling problem, and your measure is whether the contract other teams build against is clear, stable, and safe to change.
• Own multi-tenant separation. Make sure one customer’s content and branding stay theirs. The tenancy model needs a decision and an owner, and that will be one of your first real pieces of work.
• Own access, entitlements, and data residency. Define who can reach what, where data lives, and what we are able to commit to contractually.
• Own performance and cost per tenant. If this layer is slow, everything is slow. If it is expensive, it is expensive everywhere.
• Carry the platform half of a migration already in flight. We are moving off an incumbent content tool while the current system keeps earning. Sequencing that is the real work, and the order matters more than the ambition.
• Own the non-functional questions that show up in deals. A meaningful share of our deals slow down in security and compliance review rather than in the pitch, and that is a product problem with a revenue number attached.

This Role Is for You If You Have

• Experience with content management as a product, whether that is a CMS, DAM, headless content platform, or structured content system at scale. This is our primary preference.
• Experience owning platform- or infrastructure-adjacent product, where success was measured by what other teams could build rather than by features a customer names.
• Enough technical depth to be useful and the honesty to say where you are not. You can read an architecture proposal, ask the question that unpicks it, and tell the difference between a researched answer and a fluent one.
• The ability to hold your own with senior engineers, infrastructure engineers, and security specialists. Not as a peer on implementation, but well enough that a remediation estimate or a tenancy design does not go unchallenged. A previous career as an engineer is a real advantage, but not a requirement.
• A habit of thinking in seams: where systems meet, what a contract between them should guarantee, and how to keep a decision reversible rather than walking through a one-way door.
• The ability to sequence. We are modernising a platform that carries real history while it keeps earning, and the order matters more than the ambition.
• Strong writing skills. You can document decisions, trade-offs, and the reasoning behind them in a way both an engineer and an executive can act on.

Nice to Have

• Depth in AI and personalisation, or in infrastructure. Either one compounds with this role, and we are not expecting both.

This Role Is Not for You If

• You want to be a delivery manager for the engineers. They are strong and they do not need coordinating. They need decisions and clarity about what matters.
• You want to own the authoring and editorial experience itself. A colleague owns that; you will work closely with them, and drawing the seam between you well is part of the job.
• You want to run a rewrite programme. Foundations serve outcomes, and a foundation with no customer outcome attached does not get funded here and should not.
• You need the surrounding decisions settled before you arrive.
