Lead Software Engineer (Full-Stack, Python-first)

We’re seeking a pragmatic Lead Software Engineer to help one of Europe’s fastest-growing legal tech companies scale its AI-powered software platform from end to end. You’ll play a critical role in architecting scalable systems, mentoring engineers, and ensuring high technical standards across a fast-evolving product suite.

Your Challenge & Opportunity

This is a rare opportunity to influence how a modern SaaS product is architected, shipped, and scaled. As a Lead Engineer, you’ll combine deep hands-on coding with systems design and technical leadership. You’ll define software patterns for scalability, enforce code quality, and build robust Python services—all while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

What You’ll Do

Strategy & Implementation:

• Architect and implement scalable solutions across our product suite
• Design and develop sophisticated, reliable systems with clean abstractions
• Establish best practices for development, testing, deployment, and monitoring
• Act as a primary hands-on contributor during early-stage team growth

Technical Leadership:

• Serve as the main technical contributor while the team scales
• Work closely with the Head of Engineering on hiring and team development
• Lead by example with hands-on coding and peer mentorship

Cross-functional Collaboration:

• Collaborate with Product, Design, and AI Engineers on feature development
• Help define and execute the engineering roadmap
• Translate complex technical decisions to business stakeholders

What We’re Looking For

Technical Expertise:

• 4+ years of production-level Python & Django experience
• Proficiency with modern front-end frameworks like Vue 3 or React
• Hands-on experience scaling distributed software systems
• Strong testing practices: pytest, Cypress, contract testing
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and Terraform
• Deep understanding of data systems: PostgreSQL, Redis, RabbitMQ or Kafka
• Strong API design (REST/GraphQL), versioning, and documentation
• Security-focused mindset (OAuth, OIDC, JWT, GDPR compliance)

Leadership Skills:

• Experience leading technical projects as the primary contributor
• Comfort staying hands-on even while mentoring others
• Ability to clearly explain complex systems to mixed audiences

Strategic Vision:

• Ability to align technical roadmaps with product objectives
• Proven problem solver focused on delivering user and business value

Requirements

• You must be located within the CET -2/+2 time zone
• You must have 4+ years of Django experience
• You must have 4+ years in a technical leadership role
