The Role

We are seeking a Senior System & Safety Engineer to play a critical role in designing and validating the system architecture and functional safety of Vay’s Remote Driving platform.

Working across software, hardware, cloud infrastructure, and vehicle systems, you will help ensure our technology operates safely, reliably, and at scale in real-world environments.

What You’ll Do

  • Define and evolve system architecture and requirements across ECUs, motion control, connectivity, and cloud interfaces.
  • Design and validate safety mechanisms, including redundancy, fail-safe and fail-operational behaviors, and minimum risk manoeuvres.
  • Plan and execute vehicle-level testing to verify system performance and safety responses.
  • Develop monitoring frameworks and dashboards to track system health, detect faults, and reduce downtime.
  • Own the functional safety concept in accordance with ISO 26262, including safety goals, Functional Safety Concepts (FSC), and Technical Safety Concepts (TSC).
  • Build and maintain the safety case to support audits and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead safety analyses, including HARA, FMEA, and FTA, ensuring complete traceability from hazard identification through verification.

What You’ll Bring

  • Strong experience in systems engineering for complex, multidisciplinary products.
  • Hands-on experience with functional safety standards such as ISO 26262, IEC 61508, or DO-178.
  • Experience performing HARA, deriving ASIL classifications, and developing Functional and Technical Safety Requirements.
  • Ability to translate high-level product needs into structured, testable system requirements.
  • Solid understanding of system architecture across hardware and software domains.
  • Experience with requirements management tools such as DOORS, Polarion, Jama, or Flow Engineering.
  • Strong collaboration and stakeholder management skills.
  • Analytical thinking with excellent attention to detail.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with SOTIF (ISO 21448).
  • Knowledge of automotive cybersecurity standards such as ISO/SAE 21434.
  • Familiarity with ASPICE processes and assessments.
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), SysML, or Cameo.
  • Background in teleoperations, remote driving, or autonomous vehicle technologies.
