At Xentral, we’re on a mission to power growing businesses with smart, scalable software. As a Senior Software Engineer on our Platform team, you’ll help shape the critical services that drive product-wide capabilities such as authentication, communication, payments, and security.
You’ll tackle complex challenges—from addressing technical debt in a legacy monolith to scaling performant microservices that serve thousands of users daily. As part of the first team at Xentral transitioning to microservices, you’ll take ownership of multiple critical systems. Your Tasks
- Develop and maintain backend systems using PHP (Laravel), owning critical domains such as authentication, email, CRM, and API security.
- Improve system performance by identifying bottlenecks across monolithic and microservice architectures, focusing on stability and scalability.
- Write and maintain automated tests (PHP Unit, Behat) and support QA with Playwright test integration to ensure platform-wide quality and confidence.
- Modernize outdated systems—including legacy PHP, Vanilla JavaScript, and jQuery—while steadily reducing technical debt with a hands-on, solution-oriented approach.
- Design scalable solutions that prioritize customer experience and business impact, collaborating closely with engineers, QA, and product teams.
Your Profile
- 5+ years of experience building backend systems in PHP and Laravel, ideally in complex, performance-sensitive environments.
- Strong skills in test automation and quality engineering with hands-on experience using PHP Unit and Behat; open to collaborating on Playwright-based UI testing.
- Comfortable improving and refactoring legacy systems; motivated to make outdated applications performant and maintainable.
- Experience with or willingness to learn Golang; familiarity with TypeScript, React, or Vite is a plus.
- Ability to think beyond the code — understanding how technical decisions influence the product, customer experience, and long-term business goals.
