THE ROLE

Video is the heart of all our services: thousands of 24/7 live TV channels plus on-demand content from dozens of providers. The Ads Backend team turns that content into a personalised, revenue-generating advertising experience.

As an Engineering Manager, you enable your team to do their best work: approachable, a good listener, and a strong facilitator of ideas and knowledge. This is a hands-on leadership role where you act as technical lead, dive into code and architecture when needed, and set direction by example.

Ads Backend is your home base, but not the limit of your influence. You will collaborate with Ingest & Storage, Streaming & CDN, and Playback teams, helping define the technical direction of video across the company and contributing to cross-team initiatives.

THE ADS BACKEND TEAM

The team owns the in-house Server-Side Ad Insertion (SSAI) solution: the full ad pipeline from ad decisioning to impression tracking, built as a suite of services at scale. These are business-critical systems with direct revenue impact.

We are about to take SSAI to the next level with a major re-architecture — the team’s flagship challenge ahead, which this role will help lead.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Lead the Ads Backend team, both organisationally and technically
• Own the technical vision and architecture of the SSAI platform
• Contribute hands-on as technical lead (design reviews, coding, system improvements)
• Drive operational excellence for revenue-impacting services
• Shape technical direction across the broader video platform
• Lead cross-team initiatives across multiple video teams
• Represent the team to stakeholders
• Directly manage 2–4 engineers and support hiring
• Grow, develop, and retain engineering talent

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

• 5+ years leading engineering teams
• Strong hands-on engineering and technical leadership experience
• Proficiency in C++ or Go
• Experience building scalable, highly available services and APIs
• Experience with distributed systems, event-driven architectures, message queues (e.g. Kafka), and NoSQL databases (e.g. Scylla)
• Strong focus on testing and software quality
• Fluent English (written and verbal)
• Experience with advertising technology, ad serving, and SSAI/DAI
• Broad understanding of the video pipeline (ingest, transcoding, packaging, DRM, streaming, playback)
