Senior Drilling Systems Engineer

Senior Drilling Systems Engineer

Are you driven by rethinking how drilling systems are designed from first principles?
Do you believe the future of geothermal energy depends on radically simpler, faster, and lower-cost drilling architectures?

At Telura, we are developing a next-generation drilling system that uses ultra-high-voltage electro-impulses to fracture hard rock — essentially “destroying with lightning” — to enable economically viable drilling beyond today’s geothermal hotspots and unlock affordable baseload energy anywhere in the world.

Founded in 2025 and based in Munich, Telura works closely with customers, industrial partners, and leading European universities. The company is supported by SPRIND and has raised $5 million from leading European investors.

While our core rock-breaking technology is fundamentally different, successful deployment depends on integrating it into a complete drilling system — from surface equipment and deployment concepts to drill string architecture, fluid circulation, and field operations.

We are looking for a Senior Drilling Systems Engineer to help architect the full drilling platform that will bring this breakthrough technology into the field.

Tasks

  • System-Level Platform Design:
Lead the design of Telura’s drilling platform, including surface equipment, deployment concepts, drill string architecture, and bottom-hole integration.
  • Technology Integration:
Define how Telura’s electro-impulse drilling technology interfaces with conventional drilling components such as drill pipe, coiled tubing, cable-based systems, and directional drilling tools.
  • Deployment Architecture Evaluation:
Assess alternative deployment approaches, including low-footprint crane-based systems and other innovative concepts enabled by the technology.
  • Fluid & Borehole Systems:
Shape drilling fluid strategies, cuttings transport systems, and borehole cleaning concepts together with internal and external specialists.
  • Bottom-Hole Assembly Development:
Support the development of bottom-hole assemblies and mechanical interfaces, including pressure containment, structural loads, and thermal considerations.
  • Operational Procedure Development:
Translate technical concepts into practical field procedures including rig-up, tripping, logistics, maintainability, and deployment operations.
  • Cost & Deployment Analysis:
Assess capital expenditure (CAPEX), operational expenditure (OPEX), and deployment implications compared to conventional drilling systems.
  • Technical Leadership:
Act as a technical sparring partner to the CTO and engineering team on drilling-related design decisions and trade-offs.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
Support communication with customers, partners, suppliers, and investors by explaining how Telura’s technology transforms drilling system architecture.

Requirements

  • Drilling Engineering Expertise:
Significant experience in drilling engineering, drilling systems design, and drilling equipment specification.
  • Industry Background:
Experience in geothermal, oil & gas, mining, or other deep subsurface drilling industries.
  • Systems Thinking:
Strong understanding of surface equipment, drill strings, bottom-hole assemblies, hydraulics, and drilling operations.
  • Rig & Deployment Knowledge:
Practical understanding of rig design, mechanical interfaces, and field deployment operations.
  • Innovation Mindset:
Ability to evaluate both conventional and unconventional drilling architectures.
  • Startup Adaptability:
Comfortable working in early-stage environments with uncertainty, rapid iteration, and evolving technologies.
  • Collaborative Approach:
Enthusiasm for helping build a fundamentally new drilling paradigm from the ground up.
  • Preferred Industry Experience:
Experience at companies such as SLB, Halliburton, Baker Hughes, or similar organizations is highly valued.

Benefits

  • Industry-Defining Opportunity:
Architect one of the world’s most ambitious next-generation drilling systems.
  • Early Strategic Influence:
Shape platform design, testing strategies, and deployment concepts from an early stage.
  • Direct Leadership Collaboration:
Work closely with the founding and engineering leadership teams.
  • Global Impact:
Play a key role in unlocking scalable geothermal energy worldwide.
  • Equity Participation:
Receive equity aligned with long-term impact and commitment.
  • Modern Innovation Hub:
Work from the Munich Urban Colab within a world-class innovation ecosystem.
  • Insurance & Healthcare:
Accident insurance and supplementary company health insurance coverage.
  • Retirement Benefits:
    Company pension scheme.
