Manager, Data Science – Search Ranking

We are looking for a Manager, Data Science to join our Search Ranking team and help deliver exceptional customer experiences through cutting-edge Machine Learning and AI solutions.

Science is at the core of our services. We leverage Machine Learning and AI to create personalized recommendations, understand customer intent, improve search ranking, and enable semantic matching across multiple languages including Spanish, Arabic, English, Mandarin, and Korean.

Operating at global scale with thousands of requests per minute, our teams build and deploy robust, low-latency machine learning systems that create real business impact.

Your Mission

• Lead the Search Ranking Team focused on improving search precision and delivering highly contextual, personalized search experiences.
• Develop and Mentor Talent by supporting a high-performing team of 4–7 Data Scientists while fostering a culture of inclusion, scientific excellence, and continuous learning.
• Drive Strategic Alignment by partnering closely with Product Managers to define roadmaps that balance product delivery with scientific innovation.
• Champion Productionization by guiding teams to deploy scalable ML models using modern MLOps and Data Engineering practices while addressing latency, robustness, monitoring, and DevOps challenges.
• Accelerate Agentic Development by promoting the use of AI assistants and agentic tools such as Claude Code to improve engineering velocity and solution quality.
• Collaborate Across Functions with recommendation teams, engineers, and stakeholders to maximize business impact and manage dependencies effectively.
• Provide Hands-on Technical Leadership by supporting architecture discussions, model evaluations, and code reviews while maintaining strong technical depth.

What You Need to Be Successful

• Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or equivalent industry experience.
• 2+ years of experience leading Data Science teams within search or recommendation domains.
• Strong expertise in Learning-to-Rank (L2R), personalization systems, and modern AI/ML methodologies.
• Advanced coding skills in Python and SQL.
• Practical experience with MLOps frameworks such as Metaflow, MLflow, and model monitoring tools.
• Experience operating ML systems in high-throughput, low-latency production environments.
• Ability to translate complex business and product challenges into scalable technical solutions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English with strong stakeholder management abilities.

Nice to Have

• Publications or contributions in conferences such as SIGIR, RecSys, or KDD.
• Experience with search or recommendation systems in e-commerce, marketplaces, or food delivery platforms.
• Hands-on experience integrating LLMs and agentic workflows into machine learning pipelines.
