Hands-on Head of Sales for our Portfolio Company

Head of Sales (Cleantech / AI)

Location: Fully Remote (Western European Time Zone)

We are looking for a Head of Sales for one of our portfolio companies. This is a stealth search — further details will be shared before the first meeting.

The company is a cleantech startup on a mission to make renewable energy operations more efficient and scalable through the power of AI. Their technology helps asset owners, operators, and service providers optimize the performance of renewable energy sources.

We are seeking an entrepreneurial, hands-on Chief Commercial Officer / Head of Sales to lead commercial growth and help scale operations sustainably across Europe and beyond.

Tasks

As Head of Sales, you will drive our go-to-market strategy and lead all customer-facing functions — including sales, marketing, and customer success. You’ll be both a strategic thinker and an active doer: pitching to new clients, refining our value proposition, and building a high-performing commercial team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the commercial strategy to accelerate growth and strengthen our market position in the renewable energy sector.
  • Own revenue generation – from lead generation to deal closing, ensuring consistent pipeline development and high conversion rates.
  • Actively engage in sales activities, including pitching to potential clients, negotiating contracts, and managing key accounts. Expect to hear “no” often — and turn it into valuable insight for the next opportunity.
  • Build and scale the sales team, including hiring, coaching, and implementing scalable sales processes.
  • Collaborate with the CEO and leadership team to align commercial goals with product and operational strategies.
  • Develop partnerships across the renewable energy ecosystem — including operators, technology providers, and investors.
  • Oversee marketing and brand positioning to establish a strong, mission-driven presence in the market.
  • Establish and monitor KPIs to track commercial performance and drive data-informed decision-making.

Requirements

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven track record in a senior commercial, sales, or business development role — ideally within cleantech, energy, SaaS, or AI-driven technology.
  • Hands-on approach — you enjoy direct customer engagement and closing deals yourself.
  • Experience building and scaling sales teams in a startup or growth-stage environment.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
  • Strategic mindset combined with a data-driven, execution-oriented approach.
  • Comfort working remotely and collaborating across time zones.
  • Fluent in English; other European languages are a plus.
