About the Role

Engineering Managers at Kaufland play a key role in building, developing, and enabling high-performing teams that create outstanding products. This role reports to a Head of Product Engineering and is the entry point into our Engineering Management career path.

Initially, you’ll focus on hands-on technical work to understand our infrastructure and systems deeply. Once familiar, you’ll grow into more managerial responsibilities to support and lead your team effectively.

Your Tasks – What Awaits You

• You’re passionate about software development, but even more excited about building teams, fostering growth, and driving alignment
• Lead a product team of 3–10 engineers in a “you-build-it-you-run-it” environment focused on cart, checkout, and order fulfillment features
• Continue to contribute hands-on to solve technical challenges and optimize key workflows
• Support your engineers in growing their skills, taking ownership, and finding purpose in their work
• Leverage modular architectures and new technologies to build scalable, customer-centric solutions
• Balance time, budget, and quality to deliver successful features like state machines, A/B testing, and secure authentication
• Drive initiatives beyond your team: improve engineering practices, refine development workflows, and help shape our organization

Your Profile – What We Expect from You

• Experience working in cross-functional product teams, especially on scalable web apps in domains like cart, checkout, or order fulfillment
• Solid Engineering Management background with the ability to solve complex technical problems using tools like PHP, Symfony, Node.js, Go, and modern front-end frameworks like Vue 3.0
• You have a strong sense of ownership, energy, and passion that inspires your team
• Excellent communication skills – especially important in a remote setup
• Proven experience building high-performing teams and a desire to grow further as a leader
• A trusted mentor who actively supports others’ development and thrives in giving feedback and driving strategic discussions
• Fluent in English (C1) and excited about working in an international environment
