The Purpose

As Engineering Manager for the Onboarding team, you’ll lead a team of talented engineers advancing PPRO’s merchant onboarding platform. Together with your Product Manager counterpart, you’ll build and scale APIs and UIs that enable a smooth, automated onboarding experience for our customers.

Think of yourself as the hands-on “mini-CTO” of a startup within PPRO — a space where you can experiment, collaborate, and grow alongside your team.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Partner with your Product Manager to develop PPRO’s customer onboarding platform.
  • Build and maintain the new Onboarding API to connect users with PPRO’s Global Payments Gateway.
  • Own and define the onboarding problem space, including team vision, mission, goals, and KPIs.
  • Develop and execute the technology strategy for your product area.
  • Inspire, mentor, and support engineers in their growth and development.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify key opportunities for product improvement.
  • Set clear expectations and measure impact against defined goals.
  • Lead by example by contributing to the codebase and making key technical decisions.
  • Guide technical discussions, navigate trade-offs, and resolve challenges.
  • Ensure operational excellence through metrics, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
  • Embrace a startup mindset — succeed, fail, and learn as a team.

You Will Need To Have

  • Strong communication skills and experience working with diverse stakeholders.
  • Inclusive and humble leadership style.
  • Experience developing and mentoring high-performing, diverse engineering teams.
  • Results-driven mindset with a collaborative and pragmatic approach.
  • Willingness to spend ~50% of your time hands-on in the code.
  • Ability to explain and weigh technical trade-offs for a wide audience.
  • Proven experience building scalable products and services.
  • Proficiency in Java or similar general-purpose programming languages.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred, Azure or GCP also acceptable).
  • Strong influencing and communication skills with a data-informed approach.
  • Fluent working proficiency in English.

  • Kotlin / Java and Spring Boot
  • Cloud-native microservice architecture on AWS
  • Docker and Kubernetes
  • Event-driven architectures
  • Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., Terraform)
