What You Will Do

In this vital role as an Engineer II, you’ll support our Corporate Environmental Sustainability Program by helping Amgen reduce its carbon, water, and waste footprints. You’ll work cross-functionally on energy and utility systems while contributing to critical capital planning and engineering efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and update strategic sustainability targets (energy, carbon, water, waste) across U.S. sites
  • Review P&IDs and other engineering documentation
  • Analyze cost for engineering and construction projects
  • Conduct feasibility studies on sustainable energy/utility alternatives
  • Estimate environmental impacts, project costs, and technical viability
  • Generate HVAC, heat-load, energy balance, and mass balance calculations
  • Evaluate equipment, systems, and processes to achieve sustainability goals
  • Work with SMEs and clients to embed sustainable practices into capital and lifecycle projects
  • Support engineering project development, safety planning, and equipment selection
  • Research and evaluate cogeneration, trigeneration, and heat recovery systems
  • Conduct industry research on emerging sustainable technologies and practices

Travel: Up to 30% (to various unanticipated U.S. locations)
Work Model: May telecommute from anywhere in the U.S.

Basic Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • Must have academic or professional experience in the following:
    • Material/energy balances, fluid dynamics, heat & mass transfer
    • Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) or Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
    • MathCAD, MATLAB, or Python
    • Renewable energy systems such as solar PV and fuel cells
    • Statistical analysis including regression techniques
    • Engineering systems such as heat exchangers, pumps, compressors, reactors
    • Applying engineering principles to determine achievable reductions in energy/water use

Compensation

Annual Salary Range: $102,679 – $117,995 (U.S.)
Final compensation may vary based on experience, skills, and qualifications.
