Director of People and Culture (f/m/d)

  • Start Date: As soon as possible
  • Yearly Salary: €120,000 – €135,000 (fixed range, annual gross)
  • Stock Options: €120,000 – €180,000
  • Benefits: Up to €5,000 annually
  • Work Model: Full-Time, Hybrid (Munich, Germany)

Your Role

Scaling culture doesn’t happen by accident. Over the past six years, Orbem has built something distinctive: a team of 200+ people from 40+ nationalities, united by scientific rigor and the belief that deeply understanding biology can make the world healthier and more sustainable.

As we grow into the US, expand into new markets, and move toward 400+ employees, the challenge is not momentum — it’s preserving what makes us exceptional.

As Director of People & Culture, you will partner directly with the leadership team, lead a 10-person P&C team, and define the strategy that ensures Orbem’s identity evolves intentionally as we scale. You will build the infrastructure that enables growth without losing integrity.

Your Day-to-Day

People Strategy, Global Workforce & Compliance

  • Define and execute a global People strategy aligned with business goals.
  • Balance local needs with global consistency across regions.
  • Partner with leadership on headcount planning and team design.
  • Ensure compliance with German labor law and works council matters.
  • Collaborate with external advisors on international employment topics.
  • Build scalable, compliant global people processes.

Attract, Retain, Develop

  • Own and evolve company-wide talent attraction, development, and retention strategies.
  • Anticipate future leadership and capability needs.
  • Enable leaders to build strong and sustainable teams.

Culture at Scale

  • Scale Orbem’s culture intentionally through deliberate growth.
  • Translate values into daily behaviors, rituals, and decision-making frameworks.
  • Guide teams through change, ambiguity, and rapid growth phases.
  • Ensure cultural strength across locations and functions.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Set direction for the P&C team grounded in Orbem’s values.
  • Develop and elevate the P&C function to lead by example.
  • Coach and challenge leaders in complex people decisions.
  • Connect individual impact to company priorities.
  • Establish clear goal-setting and feedback systems.
  • Define performance standards at every level.

Your Experience & Skills

  • Senior leadership experience in HR or People & Culture roles.
  • Proven success building People strategies in scaling companies.
  • Strong experience managing and developing People & Culture teams.
  • Hands-on mindset, comfortable operating in a scale-up environment.
  • Confident communicator trusted across the organization.
  • Deep knowledge of German labor law and employee relations.
  • Experience supporting multi-country or global organizations.
  • Strong coaching capabilities with a passion for leadership development.
