Role Definition

Caterpillar’s Drivetrain team designs drivetrain systems and components used across Caterpillar machines and OEM applications. The Structures, Castings, and Forgings team designs many of the parts used within those components, such as axle housings, spindles, planet carriers, cases, clutch and brake components, and more.

This team provides design leadership through the entire part lifecycle—from concept and production implementation to maintenance and customer support.

This Role Includes:

  • Completing mechanical design tasks under the direction of a senior engineer.
  • Initial focus on planet carriers, differential carriers, and internal torque converter parts, with potential to expand to other part types based on business needs.

What You Will Do

  • Create new designs that meet all technical and business requirements.
  • Perform stress, deflection, spline, and bolted joint design analysis using standardized tools and processes.
  • Review deviations to assess usability of nonconforming parts.
  • Review PPAP documentation for completeness and risk mitigation.
  • Participate in CPPD and APQP activities with CAT and supplier teams.
  • Coordinate print changes with detailing and releasing teams.
  • Provide engineering support to the local assembly facility.

Degree Requirement

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Agricultural, Manufacturing, or Aerospace Engineering

Top Candidates Will Also Have

  • 3+ years of job-related experience
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Creo modeling and stress analysis
  • Experience designing cast and/or forged components
  • Demonstrated use of DFMEAs, APQP, and PPAPs

Pay Range

$95,640.00 – $143,520.00
Compensation is based on job level, experience, performance, and location.
Salary is one component of the total compensation package.
