Department Overview:

The Engineering Department supports cGMP operations through:

  • Process and utilities engineering
  • Automation and packaging support
  • Capital projects and continuous improvement

About the Role:

The Automation Engineer will design, implement, and maintain hardware/software automation solutions including Robotic Process Automation (RPA). Responsibilities include evaluating business applications, identifying automatable processes, validating systems, and ensuring regulatory compliance. You will also liaise between IT and the business, supporting cross-functional projects and improvement initiatives.

Essential Functions:

  • Partner with commissioning/validation teams to ensure FDA GMP compliance
  • Draft SOPs for automation systems
  • Implement and support automated process solutions and programming
  • Automate scientific processes and troubleshoot technical issues
  • Develop standard processes for evaluating future capital projects
  • Manage validation programs and draft/approve validation protocols
  • Review and approve change controls and deviation investigations
  • Assist with customer/regulatory audits and corrective actions
  • Collaborate with Quality, Manufacturing, Facilities, and Process Development
  • Support IT infrastructure performance, reliability, and security
  • Manage software/hardware support contracts and third-party contractors
  • Provide training and technical support
  • File and maintain documentation

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, and computer use
  • Occasional lifting (up to 50 lbs), bending, and kneeling
  • May require cleanroom gowning and handling of hazardous materials

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering or 8+ years of relevant experience
  • 2+ years of project engineering experience required
  • PE or EIT certification preferred
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred

Technical Requirements:

  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, Python, Java, JavaScript, or Ruby
  • Experience with SOP writing, change controls, investigations
  • Strong data analysis, troubleshooting, and project management skills
  • Cleanroom experience and continuous improvement focus

  • Strong multi-tasking, time management, and problem-solving skills
  • Positive attitude and adaptability in a fast-paced environment
  • Detail-oriented with high accountability

Leadership Requirements:
