The Opportunity
We’re looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead one or more engineering squads while partnering closely with our CTO.
You’ll play a key role in developing engineers, delivering high-quality software, and helping shape the future of engineering at Superchat as we continue to scale.
What You’ll Do
People Leadership
- Lead weekly or bi-weekly 1:1 meetings to support individual growth and team performance.
- Drive performance reviews, career development, and succession planning.
- Coach engineers to help them grow into broader responsibilities and leadership opportunities.
Engineering Delivery
- Partner with Product Managers and senior engineers on planning, prioritisation, delivery, and team capacity.
- Support squads throughout the full software development lifecycle.
- Ensure high standards of engineering quality and execution.
Technical Leadership
- Participate in architecture and technical debt discussions.
- Challenge decisions constructively while supporting long-term technical investments.
- Enable engineering teams to own architectural decisions.
Hiring & Team Growth
- Lead engineering recruitment, from interviews through to hiring decisions.
- Help attract and retain exceptional engineering talent.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with the CTO, Product Managers, Engineering Managers, and People Operations.
- Maintain alignment across multiple engineering squads.
- Navigate challenging conversations with professionalism and empathy.
What We’re Looking For
- 3–5+ years of engineering people management experience, ideally within B2B SaaS.
- Proven success leading engineering teams of 5–10 developers.
- Strong technical background as a Backend or Full Stack Engineer.
- Ability to contribute to technical discussions and review server-side architecture.
- Experience with Java or Kotlin is advantageous, particularly Kotlin/Quarkus.
- Demonstrated success developing engineers and supporting career progression.
- Experience hiring and successfully closing high-quality engineering candidates.
- Confidence handling performance discussions and difficult conversations.
- Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
