The Team

The SuperApp & Web Squad is part of the Engagement Mission within SumUp’s Run & Grow Tribe. The team is responsible for one of the most important areas of the SumUp ecosystem—the merchant app home screen across Android, iOS, and Web.

Our mission is to create an engaging experience that helps merchants get the most value from SumUp every time they open the app.

Key objectives include:

• Deliver an outstanding onboarding and first-time user experience.
• Promote relevant SumUp products through personalized cross-selling and upselling.
• Provide business insights through home screen widgets.
• Enable seamless navigation to the most relevant app features.

You’ll join a collaborative, cross-functional team of Android, iOS, backend, and full-stack engineers, alongside product managers, designers, and engineering leadership. You’ll also receive mentorship from a senior Android engineer to support your onboarding and professional development.

What You’ll Do

• Develop and maintain Android features for the SuperApp home screen using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
• Build onboarding experiences, home screen widgets, quick actions, customization features, profile & settings, and promotional components.
• Contribute to the Personas initiative by creating personalized home screen experiences for merchants.
• Support modularization and refactoring efforts to improve code quality and scalability.
• Participate in planning and refining engineering initiatives.
• Review code, provide constructive feedback, and follow engineering best practices.
• Create and maintain clear technical documentation.
• Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers.
• Continuously learn, take ownership, and contribute to a culture of innovation.

What You’ll Bring

• Proficiency in Kotlin and hands-on experience with Jetpack Compose.
• Knowledge of Android architectural patterns such as MVVM or MVP.
• Experience working with large Android codebases or monorepositories.
• Understanding of scalable, maintainable, and clean code principles.
• Comfort working in evolving codebases and contributing to refactoring efforts.
• Strong interest in building intuitive, user-focused mobile experiences.
• Experience collaborating within cross-functional teams.
• Curiosity, adaptability, and a continuous learning mindset.
• Strong written communication and technical documentation skills.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Firebase, Optimizely, or API design.
• Experience with Android Design Systems, animations, or accessibility best practices.
