C++/Kotlin Software Developer (RustRover Debugger)

About the Role

Do you enjoy solving complex, low-level problems and care deeply about how developer tools are built? As a Software Developer – RustRover Debugger, you’ll play a key role in advancing the debugging experience for the Rust ecosystem. You’ll own the development of one of the most critical parts of RustRover—the debugger—working across both native C++ components and the IntelliJ-based Java/Kotlin client.

What You’ll Do

As part of the RustRover team, you’ll drive the evolution of the debugger by working across two tightly connected components: the OS-specific C++ debugger (LLDB or GDB) and the IntelliJ-based Java/Kotlin frontend. You’ll collaborate with developers, QA specialists, and support engineers to deliver a seamless debugging experience for Rust developers.

• Improve and extend the RustRover debugger across both the C++ backend and Java/Kotlin frontend.
• Develop new IDE run and debug configurations, including support for remote development.
• Enhance Rust expression evaluation capabilities.
• Investigate and resolve OS-specific SIGSEGV issues within LLDB C++ code.
• Design clean, maintainable solutions supported by robust algorithms.

What You’ll Need

• C++ Expertise: Strong proficiency in modern C++ development.
• Systems Programming: Solid understanding of system programming concepts and multi-process communication.
• Software Engineering: Strong knowledge of software development processes and lifecycle management.
• Java/Kotlin: Basic knowledge of Java or Kotlin, or the willingness to learn quickly.
• Nice to Have: Experience with compiler development, LLVM, LLDB, or low-level debugging across operating systems.
• Additional Languages: Familiarity with Rust, Clojure, Python, Ruby, Haskell, or similar languages is a plus.
