About the Role

As an Embedded Software Engineer, you will develop safety-critical software that directly controls vehicle behavior in real-world driving environments.

Your work will influence how vehicles accelerate, steer, brake, monitor system health, and respond to emergency situations. You will contribute directly to software that controls real vehicles operating on public roads.

This role is based at Vay’s Berlin Headquarters and is open to candidates currently located in Berlin or willing to relocate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and verify embedded software supporting safe remote-driving operations.
  • Analyze and validate software and hardware system behavior to develop reliable solutions.
  • Work directly with hardware components, schematics, laboratory equipment, and vehicle systems.
  • Collaborate with hardware, controls, systems, and testing teams to improve tooling, automation, and testing frameworks.
  • Support the development of robust, safety-focused vehicle control systems.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong programming skills in C for embedded or low-level systems.
  • Hands-on hardware experience, including reading schematics and using oscilloscopes and laboratory equipment.
  • Demonstrated interest in learning and expanding ownership across broader system domains.
  • 0–5 years of professional experience, including internships, academic projects, or personal projects.
  • Experience from related industries such as robotics, IoT, industrial automation, aerospace, or other safety-critical systems is welcomed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with real-time or RTOS-based systems.
  • Exposure to simulation, Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL), or in-vehicle testing environments.
  • Familiarity with automotive communication protocols such as CAN and CAN FD.
  • Knowledge of automotive standards including AUTOSAR, ISO 26262, and MISRA-C.
  • Experience with Vector tools such as CANoe and CANalyzer.
  • Experience with Lauterbach TRACE32.
  • Knowledge of FPGA development, VHDL, or other low-level hardware interaction.
