Responsibilities

As a Mechanical Engineer – Cryogenics & Vacuum (f/m/d), you will join a multidisciplinary international team of physicists and engineers working on the development, setup, and operation of trapped-ion quantum computers and related test devices.

• Mechanical Development & Design:
  Develop and design highly innovative mechanical components and integrate them into the overall quantum computer system in collaboration with systems experts.
• Thermal System Design:
  Take responsibility for the detailed design of thermal pathways and interfaces while monitoring thermal budgets for quantum computers.
• CAD Modeling & Documentation:
  Create 3D CAD models and manufacturing drawings, define mechanical product designs, and manage CAD data, parts lists, and Bills of Materials (BOM).
• Manufacturing & Supplier Collaboration:
  Define manufacturing specifications, support supplier validation processes, and collaborate with suppliers regarding methods, materials, and technical requirements.
• Feasibility & Proof of Concept:
  Assist with rapid proof-of-concept development and feasibility evaluations.
• Prototype Testing:
  Test mechanical prototypes and verify compliance with specifications.
• Stakeholder Coordination:
  Facilitate proactive communication and close coordination with customers and suppliers together with procurement teams.
• Process Optimization:
  Continuously improve and optimize processes within the existing work environment.

Required Skills

• Educational Background:
  Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a comparable qualification.
• Professional Experience:
  8+ years of experience in an engineering or R&D environment.
• CAD Expertise:
  Proficiency in SolidWorks.
• Mechanical System Design:
  Experience in the design and development of bespoke machinery or systems.
• Manufacturing Knowledge:
  Experience with manufacturing processes and treatments involving a broad range of materials beyond steel and aluminum.
• Product Development Processes:
  Experience with systematic product development methodologies.
• Structured Work Style:
  Well-organized and methodical approach to work.
• Critical Thinking & Adaptability:
  Ability to adapt quickly while applying analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Language Skills:
  Business fluent in English; German language skills are considered a plus.
