Senior Technical Product Manager

About the Role

JetBrains is looking for a Senior Technical Product Manager to own the end-to-end Kotlin developer experience within IntelliJ IDEA.

The Kotlin plugin is a core part of the JetBrains ecosystem, enabling hundreds of thousands of developers to write, navigate, refactor, and understand Kotlin code every day.

This is a deeply hands-on role for someone who:

  • Uses the product daily
  • Understands Kotlin and developer workflows deeply
  • Cares passionately about developer experience
  • Builds and validates ideas directly within the editor

You won’t manage through presentations and reports — you’ll manage through experimentation, product usage, prototypes, and direct user interaction.

What You Will Do

  • Own the product vision for the Kotlin plugin, ensuring IDE support remains:

    • Fast
    • Reliable
    • Correct
    • Trustworthy

  • Coordinate roadmap planning with:

    • Kotlin compiler releases

  • Make explicit product trade-offs by balancing:

    • User value

  • Define feature problem statements and success criteria while collaborating closely with engineering teams
  • Represent key Kotlin developer personas, including:

    • JVM backend developers
    • Library authors
    • Android developers
    • Multiplatform teams
  • Prioritize recurring developer pain points such as:

    • False positives
    • Slow analysis
    • Unreliable refactorings
    • Onboarding friction
    • AI agent integrations
  • Conduct regular user interviews to understand real workflows and validate product decisions
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with:

    • Kotlin language teams
    • Developer Advocates
    • Framework partners
    • Marketing teams
    • Other JetBrains product teams
  • Create external visibility through:

    • What’s New announcements
    • Kotlin User Group talks
    • Conference presentations
    • Feature previews

  • Ability to define:

    • Clear roadmaps
    • Problem statements
    • Success metrics
    • Product trade-offs
  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and spoken
