Technical Support Engineer
Kombo (YC S22) is building a unified API that saves engineering teams hundreds of hours by integrating dozens of HRIS, ATS, and Payroll systems into one single API.
We’re looking for a Technical Support Engineer to provide exceptional technical assistance to our fast-growing customer base, debug complex integration issues, and help build the foundation of our support function. You’ll act as the technical bridge between our customers and our Product & Engineering teams.
About Kombo
Kombo is building the unified API for HR, payroll, and recruiting systems. Instead of spending months integrating dozens of systems, companies integrate once with Kombo and instantly connect to 160+ platforms. We abstract away differences in data schemas, authentication methods, and API quirks.

At Kombo, excellent support is not an afterthought — it’s a competitive advantage.
- We consistently win G2 badges for best support in our category.
- Customers frequently describe our support as the best they’ve experienced across all products.
- Support quality is one of the top 3 reasons companies choose Kombo.
As we scale further in the US and Germany, we’re expanding our support team to maintain this exceptional standard.
What You’ll Be Working On
You’ll operate as a Support Engineer, not a support agent — solving most issues directly and partnering with Engineering on more complex challenges.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Troubleshooting & Debugging: Investigate API integrations, data-sync issues, OAuth flows, API keys, and provider-specific edge cases.
- Customer Guidance: Support customer engineers via Slack, email, and occasional video calls with clear, technical explanations.
- Internal Collaboration: Escalate bugs, relay feedback, and influence fix prioritization with Product & Engineering.
- Knowledge Building: Create and maintain internal and external documentation.
- Process Improvement: Improve tooling, automation, monitoring, and reporting to scale support operations.
Example Projects
- Debugging ATS-to-Komobo sync issues caused by edge-case data mappings.
- Resolving OAuth 2.0 connection flow errors for customer engineers.
- Identifying misunderstood API parameters and improving documentation or design.
- Building dashboards and alerts to proactively monitor integration health.
- Implementing smaller product improvements based on recurring findings.
Tech Stack: REST & SOAP APIs, OAuth, Node.js, TypeScript, SQL, GCP (logs & monitoring), HRIS / ATS / Payroll systems, and Kombo’s internal tools.
Who We’re Looking For
You’re a strong technical problem-solver with clear communication skills and a builder’s mindset.
- Technical background: Experience as a Software Engineer, Support Engineer, Solutions Engineer, or similar.
- API expertise: Comfortable debugging integrations and reading JavaScript / TypeScript code.
- Systems thinking: Understand data flows, logs, and distributed systems behavior.
- Clear communicator: Able to explain technical concepts to both engineers and non-engineers.
- Empathetic: Patient and motivated to help customers succeed.
- Self-driven: Thrive with autonomy and proactively own projects.
- High-performance mindset: Prefer structured, in-office environments.
Prior experience in technical support is a plus, but not required.
