Frontend Engineer – Gauss Robotics

At Gauss Robotics, we make robotics engineering simple, affordable, and accessible by automating workflows with AI. With gauss.chat, we are building the interface connecting agentic AI to real robotic systems and simulations, enabling users to design, configure, and deploy robotic applications through natural language, real-time feedback, and interactive 3D visualization.

Braunschweig, Germany (hybrid possible)

Your Role

• Own and evolve the gauss.chat frontend architecture built with React and TypeScript.
• Design scalable UI structures and enforce clean modular boundaries in a growing codebase.
• Integrate modern authentication flows (OAuth, AWS Cognito, JWT).
• Implement real-time communication using WebSockets and Server-Sent Events (SSE) for streaming AI insights and robotics state updates.
• Integrate with backend services via REST APIs, streaming endpoints, and async workflows.
• Develop high-performance 3D visualization components using Three.js and Meshcat for robotics simulation and feedback.
• Optimize rendering performance and responsiveness in real-time and 3D-heavy contexts.
• Maintain and expand a reusable UI system using Material-UI (Joy) and Tailwind CSS.
• Contribute to frontend testing strategy (unit + E2E) and enforce code quality standards (ESLint, Prettier).
• Collaborate with backend, AI, and robotics engineers on architectural decisions and product direction.
• Continuously identify and improve technical weaknesses in the frontend stack.

With strong initiative and performance, this role can evolve into a Frontend Lead or Head of Frontend position.

Requirements

• 3+ years professional experience with React and TypeScript.
• Strong understanding of frontend architecture and modular state management.
• Experience with real-time systems (WebSockets, SSE, streaming updates).
• Solid grasp of performance optimization for modern frontend apps.
• Familiarity with authentication and RBAC systems.
• Experience integrating REST APIs and managing complex asynchronous flows.
• Preference for clean abstractions, maintainable code, and long-term code health.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup with high-impact responsibility.
• Good communication skills in English.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Three.js, Meshcat, or other 3D/WebGL technologies.
• Experience building AI-powered or developer-centric applications.
• Experience contributing to or maintaining a UI design system.
• Interest in robotics, simulation, and hardware-integrated systems.
• Mentoring experience or influencing frontend architecture.
