Senior Network Operations Engineer

Job Description: GNOC Engineer (IC3)

We are seeking a skilled and proactive engineer with 3–5 years of experience to join our Global Network Operations Center (GNOC) team on-site in Abilene, Texas. The GNOC is the front line for addressing physical network issues and operates 24x7x365 to ensure the reliability and efficiency of Oracle’s network infrastructure.

Primary Objectives

  • Ensure maximum possible service availability and performance
  • Deliver premier customer service
  • Maintain high-quality structured cabling and data center build standards
  • Provide comprehensive support to Engineering, Operations, and other technical teams

Note: This is a full-time on-site position requiring day/night shifts, weekends, and holidays. Occasional travel and biometric data processing for access control are also required.

Responsibilities

NOC Operations

  • Perform safe network changes using procedures and tools
  • Mentor junior engineers
  • Participate in incident response and support rotations
  • Analyze network incidents and conduct root cause analysis (RCA)
  • Join major incident calls and provide technical resolution support
  • Manage fault handling and vendor escalations

Leadership

  • Collaborate with shift leads and managers to optimize operations
  • Lead projects and tool development to enhance GNOC performance
  • Conduct interviews and hire junior engineers
  • Represent GNOC in meetings and audits

Automation & Scripting

  • Collaborate on network automation tooling
  • Develop scripts for routine tasks (Python, Puppet, SQL, Ansible)

Project Management

  • Lead runbook development and training initiatives
  • Support short- and long-term project execution

Technical Qualifications

Networking

  • Expert in protocols: PBGP, OSPF, IS-IS, TCP/IP, VPN, DNS, DHCP, SSL, MPLS
  • Experience with Juniper, Cisco, Arista, InfiniBand, firewalls, switches
  • Network alert diagnosis and fault response
  • Large ISP or cloud provider background preferred
  • Cisco/Juniper certifications desired

GPU/RDMA

  • Experience with GPU/RDMA environments and high-performance computing
  • Knowledge of InfiniBand technologies

Design & Build

  • Participate in network lifecycle and upgrade projects
  • Contribute to network solution design reviews

Soft Skills

  • Highly motivated and self-starting
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Strong time management and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • 3–5 years of relevant network experience

Compensation

Salary Range: $79,100 – $158,200 USD per year

Eligible for bonus and equity. Placement based on experience and internal equity.
