Robotics Research Engineer

Overview

The Sensors and Robotics Team at Aramco’s Houston Research Center creates disruptive technologies to advance discovery of resources, recovery from the subsurface, and operational efficiency.

We’re looking for a creative, hands-on problem solver who collaborates effectively, enjoys tackling big challenges, and takes ownership of delivering impactful results. Our focus includes developing sensors and robotic systems to automate Upstream operations.

Principal Duties

  • Develop electrical/electronic systems, firmware, and test environments for oilfield robots and the sensors they carry
  • Collect and analyze lab and field data to debug systems and evaluate performance
  • Manage engineering efforts to ensure high-quality outcomes and timely delivery
  • Provide technical insights and guidance to support team productivity and excellence
  • Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and conferences; support patent application drafting
  • Use design and simulation software extensively; strong experience required
  • Occasional travel to technical conferences and to support testing in Saudi Arabia

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from a recognized institution; MS or PhD preferred
  • Experience:
    • MS or PhD: 3–5 years of applicable experience with recognized expertise in the field
    • BS: 5–10 years of applicable experience with recognized expertise in the field
  • Communication: Must communicate clearly and effectively in English
  • Knowledge: Strong grasp of engineering practices, including:
    • Scientific and economic principles
    • Calculation methods and design details
    • Engineering codes, standards, and specifications
  • Professionalism: Strong work habits and ethics; adherence to company work hours, policies, and professional standards
