About the Role

We’re looking for a Staff Engineer, Site Reliability to lead our reliability program and ensure reliability is ingrained in Scout24’s engineering culture. You’ll collaborate across engineering, product, customer care, and other departments to create a comprehensive reliability strategy. This is crucial to meeting the needs of our rapidly growing real-estate ecosystem.

How Your Role Will Look Like:

Reliability & Observability Strategy

  • Research and implement new ways to improve observability platforms and tools.
  • Design and execute a reliability strategy aligned with business outcomes.
  • Define and track reliability targets (SLOs) to enable data-driven decision-making.
  • Guide the technical roadmap for reliability across Scout24.
  • Advocate for reliability and resiliency in product development.
  • Report key reliability KPIs to leadership, providing insights on system health and trends.

Incident Management Leadership

  • Own and improve our incident handling processes and automation.
  • Foster a blameless culture, learning from incidents across the company.
  • Lead the definition of disaster recovery in the cloud.

Platform & Tooling Collaboration

  • Partner with Platform teams to build observability and reliability tooling.
  • Collaborate with product teams to solve pain points and deliver impactful solutions.
  • Help design and implement monitoring solutions for system visibility.
  • Manage budgeting and financial performance of vendors and tools.

Cultural Transformation & Strategic Leadership

  • Help teams understand and improve the reliability of their services.
  • Provide technical leadership on reliability across engineering, managers, and product teams.
  • Raise awareness about the financial and reputational risks of unreliable products.
  • Support the “you build it, you run it” model by mentoring teams on resilient systems.
  • Drive engineering initiatives, ensuring quality, reliability, security, and performance.

What You Need to Succeed:

  • Significant experience in software engineering with scalable distributed systems (around 8 years preferred, but we value skills over timelines).
  • Strong SRE background with a deep understanding of SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, and observability.
  • Expertise in platform engineering/DevOps, passionate about monitoring distributed systems.
  • Experience in incident management, post-incident analysis, and organizational change.
  • Experience using AI tools for problem-solving and productivity, with effective human oversight.
  • A data-driven mindset using metrics to inform engineering decisions.
  • Technical leadership experience including mentoring, pair programming, and solution design.
  • The ability to balance strategic vision with tactical implementation.
  • Excellent communication skills to translate technical concepts across various stakeholders.
  • Growth mindset with strong cross-functional collaboration abilities.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
