Tech Lead – Backend Services

justDice is looking for a passionate and experienced Tech Lead to join our dynamic team in Hamburg. In this role, you’ll bridge the gap between product vision and hands-on development, helping drive impactful decisions across our backend infrastructure while mentoring a high-performing team.

Your Mission

As a Tech Lead for Backend Services, you’ll:

• Work closely with Product Leads to define development plans, timelines, and realistic ETAs.
• Balance fast-paced feature development with building scalable, reliable, and long-lasting systems.
• Stay hands-on — coding and developing infrastructure 20–30% of the time.
• Lead backend engineers through technical mentorship, guidance, and inspiration.

What You Will Do

• Technical Mentorship: Guide the team on technologies, tools, and best practices.
• Code Quality: Ensure high-quality code through reviews, standards, and testing practices.
• Design & Architecture: Design systems that are secure, maintainable, and extensible.
• Hands-On Contribution: Spend 20–30% of your time coding and shaping the infrastructure.
• Cross-Team Collaboration: Work with Product Leads and Engineers to align on design and vision.
• Innovation: Promote new tools, approaches, and technologies to keep us on the leading edge.
• Strategic Infrastructure Planning: Develop a technical strategy that aligns with product goals and future growth.

Your Profile

• Experience: 8+ years in software engineering across multiple technologies and architectures.
• Tech Stack: Expertise in Go and scalable microservices. Familiar with AWS/Azure/Google Cloud services.
• Cloud & Infrastructure: Deep understanding of cloud infrastructure, networking, logging, and monitoring.
• Containers & Orchestration: Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, Terragrunt, CloudFormation).
• Databases: Proficient in various types of databases — SQL (MySQL, PostgreSQL), NoSQL (MongoDB, DynamoDB), Big Data (Elasticsearch, Druid).
• Education: Apprenticeship or degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
• Project Management: Confident in planning, monitoring, managing dependencies, and supporting team progress.
• Soft Skills: A true team player, clear communicator, motivator, and problem-solver.
• Mindset: Business-driven, adaptable, curious, and goal-oriented — with an 80/20 focus.
